JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Air Force hit a booby-trapped house in Gaza a day after a Kassam rocket was fired on southern Israel.
The attack on the house rigged with explosives, located near the border fence between Gaza and Israel, took place Thursday evening as President Obama’s envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell, was meeting with Israeli military Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi. It was Israel’s first strike on Gaza in more than a month.
The Kassam fired Wednesday was the first attack on southern Israel in two weeks.
The rocket attack came hours before hundreds of area residents gathered for the Mimouna festival, celebrated by North African Jews at the end of Passover, which caused heavy traffic in the area. The attack caused no damage or injuries.
