JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is visiting five African counties.
Lieberman was scheduled to leave Wednesday on an eight-day trip to Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. He will be accompanied by senior government officials and business leaders.
His first stop is Addis Ababa to open the Ethiopia-Israel economic forum and inaugurate the center of excellence for developing human resources in agriculture in Ethiopia, a tripartite project of the two countries and USAID.
During his trip, Lieberman is scheduled to meet in a Nairobi synagogue with Kenyan Jews and to donate agricultural kits to Kenya. In Uganda, the foreign minister will participate in a memorial ceremony for those who fell in the 1976 Entebbe rescue operation
"The visit to Africa is very important in reinforcing and improving Israel’s standing in the international community and will contribute to advancing Israel’s interests in international forums," Lieberman said, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry. "The visit will also strengthen economic and business ties between the African states and Israel."
