(JTA) — A Massachusetts butcher was fined for falsely billing his shop as having kosher certification.
The Gordon and Alperin Butcher Shop in Newton, Mass. was slapped with the fines Oct. 14. The principal operator of the shop, Ricardo Bosich, had advertised that the shop’s meat was kosher despite lacking certification from September 2008 to August 2009. The shop had been certified as kosher before the lapse.
Massachusetts kosher food law requires that establishments must operate under Orthodox rabbinical supervision in order to gain certification.
Bosich agreed to paid a $1,000 civil fine and has since reapplied for certification.
