WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Obama administration slammed as "outrageous" Hamas’ condemnation of the killing of Osama bin Laden.
"It goes without saying bin Laden was a murderer and a terrorist," Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman, told reporters. "He ordered the killings of thousands of innocent men, women and children, many of whom were Muslim."
Hamas had lauded the terrorist leader as a martyr in the wake of Sunday’s U.S. operation in Pakistan that killed him.
The Obama administration has expressed its dismay about last week’s reconciliation between Hamas, the terrorist group that runs the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian Authority, but has stopped short of saying it will cut off aid to the Palestinian Authority.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the action against bin Laden.
