* Rabbi Basil Herring is leaving his position as executive vice president of the Rabbinical Council of America, the umbrella organization for nearly 1,000 Orthodox rabbis in 14 countries. Herring, who has been in the position since 2003, will remain in the job until a successor is found and will continue in the organization in some other capacity, according to the RCA. A search committee has been formed to look for a replacement.
* Moscow’s chief rabbi, Pinchas Goldschmidt, was elected president of the Conference of European Rabbis. He is taking over from France’s former chief rabbi, Joseph Hayim Sitruk, who had held the post since 1999.
* Dan Michman was appointed head of Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Research. He replaces the late David Bankier. Dina Porat is replacing Michman as Yad Vashem’s chief historian and will begin the job in October.
* Rabbi Stuart Weinblatt of Congregation B’nai Tzedek in Potomac, Md., has been elected chair of the Rabbinic Cabinet of the Jewish Federations of North America. He succeeds Rabbi Steven Foster of Denver, who served for two years.
* American Friends of Likud staffer Leora Kaufman is leaving the organization with plans to continue working in the Jewish community. In six years with the orgaization she has served as its programs and events coordinator and as its office manager.
