JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Jewish teen was stabbed in Jerusalem by an assailant allegedly from a nearby Palestinian village.

Yehuda Ne’emad, 17, was sitting with a friend in the Ramot neighborhood, which is located in part in eastern Jerusalem, when the Palestinian reportedly approached him and stabbed him twice before fleeing to the nearby Palestinian village of Kfar Ikssa.

Ne’emad was taken to Hadassah Medical Center, where his condition has been upgraded to moderate but stable after initially being listed as serious.

A group that represents terror victims attributed the attack to the swap last week that brought home captured soldier Gilad Shalit after five years in Hamas’ captivity in exchange for 477 Palestinian prisoners and another 550 in two months.

Construction on the security fence between Israel and the West Bank in the area where the stabbing occurred is expected to begin at the end of 2012.
