JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Hillel director at Tel Aviv University, Pnina Gadai Agenyahu, is the first Ethiopian Jew appointed to Israel’s Council for Higher Education.
Agenyahu, 31, who came to Israel at the age of 3, was appointed to the council this week by Education Minister Gideon Saar.
She began her Hillel career as a student at Hebrew University, initiating innovative programs, then became program director of the Hillel at Hebrew University in Jerusalem before being appointed to the Tel Aviv University post — the first Ethiopian-born Hillel director in the world.
Agenyahu has traveled around the world as a spokeswoman for Israel.
