(JTA) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will travel to Israel and Jordan in what is being called a trade mission.
Christie will visit Israel April 1-5, the days leading up to Easter known as Holy Week. He then will travel to Jordan on a personal visit at the invitation of King Abdullah II and remain in the country through Easter Sunday.
The trip is co-sponsored by The Republican Jewish Coalition and Choose New Jersey, a nonprofit organization formed by business executives to expand the state’s economy, according to the Star-Ledger newspaper.
Christie will be accompanied by his family, members of his staff and representatives of the state’s business and Jewish communities, according to the New Jersey Daily Record.
Christie said in October after a visit with Israel’s U.S. Ambassador Michael Oren that he would travel to Israel as part of his first official overseas trip as New Jersey governor.
"There’s a great, great, great long-term connection between New Jersey and Israel, and I intend to make that as strong as I can along with the ambassador and other important folks in the Israeli government," Christie said at the time.
