(JTA) — Two incidents of hate, one anti-Semitic, were discovered on the University of Maryland campus in College Park.
University president Wallace Loh informed the campus community of the incidents in a letter dated Wednesday. He said they were discovered "very recently."
An elevator in an academic building was vandalized with anti-Semitic messages and a noose was discovered hanging in a building under renovation, he wrote.
"These incidents are abhorrent," Loh wrote. "The University of Maryland does not tolerate hate or bias in any form. And, it is the right of all members of our community to work and live in an environment in which they feel safe, respected, and included."
Loh said that though incidents of campus bias have declined 85 percent to five in 2001, "even one incident is too many."
