Israeli on trial in Poland for allegedly killing wife

WARSAW, Poland (JTA) — A former Israeli soldier who is accused of killing his wife is on trial in Poland.

The trial of Yaakov M. began Wednesday in the seaport city of Szczecin. He is charged with intentional homicide.

According to prosecutors, Yaakov M. on Aug. 30, 2011 told Polish police that his wife had disappeared. The next day her body was found in a drainage ditch in Mierzyn, near Szczecin.

Yaakov M. claims that during an argument, his wife fell and hit her head on a wooden dowel, causing her death. He said he shoved her body in a trunk and left it in the drainage ditch, and admits that he acted unreasonably.

Six months before her death, his wife changed her will to leave her property to friends.
