(JTA) — A Jewish cultural center, including a Holocaust museum, was dedicated in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.
The Menorah Jewish Community Center, a seven-tower, 20-story center and museum complex, was dedicated Tuesday in a ceremony. It will open to the public on Oct. 21.
The complex, which also includes an Institute for Jewish Culture as well as a gallery with photographs of 40 major synagogues in Dnepropetrovsk before the Nazis took power, cost an estimated $60 million to build.
Chabad-Lubavitch is calling it the largest Jewish center in the world.
Some 300 guests attended the opening ceremony, including Jewish leaders from Russia, Ukraine and other former Soviet Union states, European Jewish leaders, and several Israeli officials including Yuli Edelstein, minister of public diplomacy and Diaspora affairs, and Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar.
Some 12,000 Jews from Dnepropetrovsk were killed by the Nazis in 1941. Some 50,000 Jews are living now in Dnepropetrovsk.
