Good news, comedy lovers!
The man behind “The 40-year-old virgin,” “Superbad,” “Bridesmaids” and many other movie hits will serve as the guest editor
for the first ever “comedy issue” of Vanity Fair magazine.
“Judd Apatow has revolutionized filmed comedy by creating scripts and cultivating a stable of actors in much the manner that Preston Sturges and Woody Allen have done in the past,” Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter says. “I’m thrilled that he will be bringing his singular comic sensibility and players to our pages.”
The special edition, which will be published in New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 5 and the rest of the country on Dec. 12, will contain “more than 20 pages of comedy content, including a series of photos by celebrated entertainment photographer Mark Seliger.”
According to Laughspin, Vanity Fair joins magazines like Spin (guest edited by Patton Oswalt), Rolling Stone (with Aziz Ansari on the cover), GQ (with Mila Kunis’ wonderful being), Blackbook (Anna Faris) and other magazines that have already issued a comedy edition.
“I proposed the idea of editing a comedy issue,” says Apatow. “I didn’t think Graydon would say yes, and then I didn’t think it would be that much work. And then I found out I don’t get paid. I’m a gigantic fan of Vanity Fair and having the opportunity to collaborate on an issue that focuses on comedy has been fantastic.”
And no doubt a fantastic choice by Vanity Fair.
