WASHINGTON (JTA) – The Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life urged Congress to extend the production tax credit as a way to encourage renewable energy development.
Ten leaders representing the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements in a letter to Congress noted that the Jewish people “are called from the earliest verses of Torah to be good stewards of our resources, including our climate, water and air, and to protect our health and our natural world.”
If the production tax credit is extended as part of the ongoing budget negotiations “you will enable companies to restart project development, place manufacturing orders, and keep the wind workforce 75,000 people strong — and growing,” the letter stated.
The Jewish organizations that signed onto the Dec. 13 letter include the leaders of the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, the Green Zionist Alliance, Hadassah, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Rabbinical Assembly, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, the Shalom Center, Teva Learning Alliance and Urban Adamah.
