Barbara Walters has been in the hospital for the past 10 days with chicken pox, co-worker Whoopi Goldberg announced on their TV show, “The View,” today.

“We want to give you an update on Barbara,” Goldberg said. “You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She’d never had it as a child. So now she’s been told to rest, she’s not allowed any visitors, and we’re telling you, Barbara — no scratching.”

The 83-year-old Jewish newswoman cut her head after falling at an inauguration party for a British ambassador, the LA Times reports, and then developed a fever as well as chicken pox. While the scratchy disease is not necessarily life threatening, its more dangerous for adults than it is for children.

We wish you a full recovery, Barbara! Come back to TV soon!
