Ben Sales filed a story last week about various religious pluralism issues still on the burner. Right on cue… Susie Gelman, a co-owner of the Washington Jewish Week and immediate past president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, is calling for the introduction of civil marriage in Israel. Just a few weeks ago, Gelman signed on to a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu urging him to mae clear "Israel’s readiness to make painful territorial sacrifices for the sake of peace."
Gelman is also serving as co-hair of the 2013 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America, which will take place in Novemeber in Jerusalem. So she can always deliver the messages in person if nothing’s moved by then.
