Lately there’s been some buzz about a few interesting Jewish stars (possibly) lined up for some interesting films. Here, the low-down on where you might next see some of your favorite actors.
* In what seemed like about five seconds after everyone you knew had read Gillian Flynn’s “Gone Girl” the news hit that Reese Witherspoon was turning the book into a movie. While many initially assumed Witherspoon would probably play the role of Amy, now rumor has it that the part may go to Israeli-born Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, or Emily Blunt.
What is certain (at least for now—this is Hollywood, after all) is that Ben Affleck will play Amy’s husband Nick, aka the guy who may or may not be responsible for Amy’s mysterious disappearance on the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.
* Another rumor we hope is true is that Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys, might be joining the cast of Noah Baumbach’s “While We’re Young.” Ad-Rock won’t be the only Jew you’ll see on screen. According to Vulture, Ben Stiller will play one half a middle-aged couple (Naomi Watts is his wife) who make some young pals, played by Amanda Seyfried and Adam Driver. Ad-Rock’s role: The disapproving friend.
* The latest addition to the cast of Jon Favreau’s “Chef” is the legendary Dustin Hoffman. This one’s for real–Favreau established the news Monday via a Vine video.
Also appearing in the film, in which writer/director/star Favreau plays a chef who loses his job and starts a food truck business, are Robert Downey Jr., Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, and (drumroll) tribe member Scarlett Johansson.
