(JTA) — The Cleveland-based Mandel Foundation awarded more than $13 million to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
The gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation includes a $10 million capital grant to construct the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Institute for Social Leadership building and $3.1 million to establish the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Honors Program in Social Leadership, which will be housed in the new building, the university announced on Tuesday.
The 40,000-square-foot building, designed by Plesner Architects of Tel Aviv, will house classrooms, studios, offices, auditoriums and research facilities.
“This gift represents our desire to support Ben-Gurion University, the city of Beersheba, and the advancement of social leadership in Israel,” Morton Mandel, the foundation’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement.
The foundation has had a longstanding relationship with Ben-Gurion University.
The Mandel Honors Program in Social Leadership is designed to teach business and management students relevant business administration, social responsibility and social leadership skills.
