JERUSALEM (JTA) — A stockpile of weapons was discovered at a third United Nations school in the Gaza Strip.
The rockets were discovered Tuesday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency said in a statement, according to the Times of Israel, which reported that the incident was not publicized by UNRWA on its website or official Twitter feed, or that of its spokesperson.
The school was closed for the summer and not being used as a shelter, and the rockets were discovered during what the UNRWA called a routine inspection of the premises.
“We condemn the group or groups who endangered civilians by placing these munitions in our school. This is yet another flagrant violation of the neutrality of our premises. We call on all the warring parties to respect the inviolability of U.N. property,” UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness said in a statement, Reuters reported.
Rockets were discovered at two other U.N. schools in Gaza last week, one stockpile located in a school next to a shelter for Gazan civilians displaced by the current conflict. In one incident, the rockets reportedly were turned over to local Palestinian authorities.
