Ted Merwin came close to recognizing the problem, but missed the point in his essay, “The End Of Jewish Liberalism?” (Aug. 29)
With the knee-jerk reaction of so many non-Jewish liberals condemning Israel despite the sacrifices it made to conduct the most humanitarian military campaign in history, many former Jewish liberals (till now) are finally realizing that true liberalism has yielded to thinly veiled anti-Semitism. And many former liberal Jews have discovered, finally, the line in the quicksand.
Ironically, the sand thrown in their eyes for so long has opened their eyes to the moral blindness of those who support the concept of human shields and shielding the truth from the public discourse.
