(JTA) — A federal appeals court upheld the dismissal of a $680 million lawsuit against Yeshiva University by 34 students who said they had been abused at its high school.
The three-judge panel of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan on Thursday agreed with a lower court’s ruling that the plaintiffs, who alleged abuse from the 1970s to the 1990s, had waited too long to sue, the New York Daily News reported.
The plaintiffs argued that they were not aware of Yeshiva University’s awareness of the abuse until an expose in the Forward in 2012. The court said that because the plaintiffs knew in real time that the school had rejected their claims, they should have had an inkling of its negligence.
