(JTA) — French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said France will push a plan to submit to the United Nations Security Council a resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Fabius, who in December said his country would wait for two years before unilaterally recognizing a Palestinian state, made the comment about the draft resolution while speaking to reporters Friday at the U.N. headquarters before planning to leave for the Iran nuclear talks in Switzerland, The Associated Press reported.
“There is no other solution,” he said about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
France postponed a previous council resolution in order to wait for the results of Israel’s election. Now Fabius indicated that France will take up that effort again as soon as Israel’s new government is formed.
Fabius said he didn’t know whether the United States would agree to the draft resolution.
