Hebrew National won’t post any more non-kosher videos

(JTA) — Kosher hot dog brand Hebrew National will no longer post videos with non-kosher dishes on its website, JTA has learned.

A Hebrew National official wrote to JTA in an email Wednesday that the company’s website and social media accounts “will no longer feature non-kosher toppings and hot dog combinations.” The email comes after an Aug. 6 JTA article on Hebrew National videos advertising the hot dogs with bacon, shellfish and cheese — all patently non-kosher. (Cheese is not intrinsically non-kosher, but when paired with meat it is not kosher.)

“Our consumers who adhere to a kosher diet are very important to us,” the official wrote. “While the non-kosher suggestions we presented were intended for a broader audience, we respect the beliefs and standards of our loyal kosher consumers and want to ensure they are completely comfortable with how we present Hebrew National hot dogs.”

The company is one of the U.S.’s most iconic kosher brands. Its slogan is, “We answer to a higher authority.”
