JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli reserve military officer was detained in the United Kingdom over accusations of war crimes.

The officer, who fought in the 2014 Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, was detained several weeks ago after landing in Britain on a business trip, Ynet reported over the weekend. He was released several hours later with the assistance of Israel’s Foreign Ministry and the Israel Defense Forces. British authorities apologized to Israel following the incident, according to Ynet.

Soldiers and officers who fought in the operation in Gaza whose names and other details appeared in information released by the IDF or on social media have been targeted by pro-Palestinian organizations, which have filed complaints against them throughout Europe.

Examples of such targeted soldiers and officers are the 60 soldiers who received citations for excellence during the Gaza operation, an unnamed IDF source told Ynet.
