A group of 100 Jewish refugees from Austria, among them ten children and several pregnant women, were detained today by the Italian authorities when they attempted to cross the frontier illegally.

Plans are under way to send them to the international concentration camps on the Lipari Islands. Attempts to prevent such action have proved futile.

The Central Committee of Jewish Refugees today dispatched an invitation to members of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine to visit displaced persons camps in Italy after they complete their work in Palestine.

Meanwhile, the Italian municipal authorities at Bari have asked the refugees’ organization there to vacate its offices after raising the question of the legality of the activities of the group. Jewish spokesmen call the step symptomatic of a change in the attitude of the Italian Government toward clandestine Jewish activities here.
