One hundred and seventy-five Jews will be among the first group of 813 DP’s to be admitted into the United States under the DP Immigration Act, it was learned here today when the list of immigrants to embark at this port Thursday was read. The second group of immigrants is scheduled to sail for Boston Nov. 8.
One of the most dramatic developments of the day at the staging center here was the volunteering of Rabbi Izak Haut of Czechoslovakia, and of a Polish Catholic family of three to wait for the next group to leave for America. They volunteered to remain in order to make room for four persons who were inadvertently left off the list and would have been separated from their families.
