The Great Synagogue in Moscow was filled to its 3,000-seat capacity for Rosh Hashanah services last week, while many other Russian Jews milled in the street outside the house of worship, Moshe Kol, a member of the Jewish Agency executive, reported here today upon his return from a week’s private visit to the Soviet Union.
Mr. Kol, who is world director for youth immigration on behalf of the Agency, was given special honors at the services on the second day of Rosh Hashanah by being invited to open the Holy Ark and remove the Torah.
