Paul Zuckerman, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, announced that more than 3000 Jewish leaders from over 200 communities have already made reservations for a March 5 UJA dinner honoring Premier Golda Meir. “This is an unprecedented response, indicating the profound respect and affection which the American Jewish community holds for the Prime Minister,” Zuckerman said.
On March 5, Mrs. Meir will be presented with a book specially created for the occasion, containing personal messages from nearly 200 community campaign chairmen who will be present for the event. In addition to serving as a tribute to Mrs. Meir, the occasion, scheduled on the eve of a celebration by the international Jewish community of Israel’s 25th anniversary, will commemorate 25 years of effort on the part of the people of Israel and the American Jewish community.
