Representatives of four Yiddish theatrical unions at a meeting on Tuesday voted to plead with the union stage hands and musicians to make some wage concessions which would permit the reopening of the nine New York Yiddish theatres that have been closed since Sunday night. These theatres employ 700 people.
A committee was chosen to seek a conference with officials of these two unions. The stage hands’ and musicians’ unions are the only two Yiddish theatrical unions who thus far are unwilling to make any concessions to the demand of the Yiddish theatrical managers for a 40 per cent wage reduction. The committee which will confer with these two unions is headed by Reuben Guskin, manager of the Hebrew Actors’ Union.
