A British journalist vanished in the Gaza Strip. Alan Johnston of the BBC disappeared in Gaza City late Monday in what was believed to be a kidnapping, Palestinian Authority police said. There was no immediate ransom claim, and the Hamas government pledged to retrieve the journalist. Most foreign media personnel have shunned Gaza since internecine Palestinian fighting erupted there last year.
