A California temple is donating a Torah scroll to a Jewish school in Vienna.
Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs discovered that the Vienna Jewish community school, Zwi Perez Chajes, needed a second Torah when a congregant, Leonard Sherman, returned from a recent visit to the Austrian capital. Temple Isaiah decided to donate one of its nine scrolls.
The U.S. congregation held a special donation ceremony last Friday to pray for the safe passage of the scrolls. Another ceremony will be held in Vienna when the Torah arrives there on May 16.
