A message of greetings to Israel on the occasion of its fifth anniversary was issued by the Canadian Government last night. It emphasized Israel’s achievements in the short time of its existence. The message also recalled Canada’s efforts on behalf of recognition of Israel’s sovereignty and its support of Israel’s admission to the United Nations. At the same time, Edward E. Gelber, president of the United Zionist Council of Canada, issued a call to Canadian Jewry to give maximum aid to Israel in order to ensure its “ultimate economic independence.”
