A mother with a genetic disease gave birth to a healthy baby thanks to an Israeli hospital’s combination of genetic screening and in-vitro fertilization. The mother of the baby born last week at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem has a condition called myotonic dystrophy, the most common adult form of muscular dystrophy. A screening of her eggs allowed doctors to identify those that were free of the disease, and she then underwent in-vitro fertilization.
