Actress Elizabeth Taylor is fighting claims that she has a Nazi-looted painting in her possession. Descendants of Margarete Mauthner, who have filed a lawsuit in a U.S. court, say Van Gogh’s “View of the Asylum of Saint-Remy” was taken from Mauthner during World War II. But Taylor’s lawyers said Mauthner voluntarily sold the painting to finance her family’s flight to South Africa. Taylor’s father bought her the painting at a London auction in 1963.
