Adolphe Wolfe, pioneer Portland merchant, founder of the Lipman & Wolfe Department Store and prominent communal leader, died last week. He was eight-five years old.
Mr. Wolfe, silvery-haired patriarch of the Portland Jewish community, celebrated his eighty – fifth birthday at the recent seventy-fifth anniversary celebration of Congregation Beth Israel. He was the congregation’s president for twenty years.
