American-british Cooperation on Middle East Problems Urged

Sir Roger Makins, new British Ambassador to Washington, in an address before the National Press Club here, called for closer United States-British cooperation on Middle East policy.

The Ambassador stressed that the Middle East is perhaps the most important area in the world where it is vital “to have full and thorough-going coordination” of policy. Although Sir Roger did not specify in what matters closer cooperation is needed, it is understood that one of these is the establishment of a Middle East defense organization without Arab participation in the opening stages.
