American Jewish leaders are staking out positions on the eve of an Israeli- Palestinian peace summit in the United States. Jewish leaders who signed a full-page ad in The New York Times said they are concerned that Prime Minister Ehud Barak has “abandoned the principle of reciprocity” by agreeing to widespread concessions while the Palestinians are “strenuously avoiding their obligations.” Meanwhile, 295 U.S. Jewish leaders signed a letter telling Barak that “the overwhelming majority of American Jews” support his peace policies.
