The lawyers for Yigal Amir have appealed his conviction, arguing that someone else could have fired the bullets that killed Yitzhak Rabin.
Describing their grounds for appeal, Amir’s defense lawyers said this week there is reasonable doubt the bullets that killed Rabin came from Amir’s gun.
Amir, 25, confessed to shooting Rabin at a Nov. 4 Tel Aviv peace rally. He was convicted of murder in February and sentenced to life in prison.
During the trial, ballistics experts said that the bullets in Rabin’s body matched those from Amir’s gun.
But defense lawyers for Amir said that questions remain about how many bullets Amir fired, and whether casings found at the site matched those of the bullets from Amir’s gun.
