“The Way Out—A Formula for Amity Between Jew and Gentile” was the topic of a symposium which was sponsored by the Zionist Organization of Detroit. Philip Slomovitz, editor of The Detroit Jewish Chronicle, Dr. Augustus P. Reccord, minister of the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Our Father, and Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple Beth El were the speakers.
Mr. Slomovitz, speaking on the national and economic aspects, advocated the rebuilding of Palestine as a solution to the Jewish problem. Dr. Reccord expressed the belief that the problem of amity is approaching realization in the United States through the decline of intolerance. He stated that progress has thrown Jew and Gentile in closer contact with each other, and that knowing each other better, there is a better understanding and good will.
Rabbi Fram declared that Christians and Jews will have to unite to “puncture the Jewish myth.” He maintained that this myth was built up through 2,000 years of propaganda, a “myth that personifies the Jew as a symbol that is cruel, greedy, reprehensible.”
