News Brief

An Italian writer says he was threatened for supporting a boycott of the Turin Book Fair over its honoring of Israel.

Gianni Vattimo, an author and philosopher, told the Italian media he had received an anonymous letter urging him to “remember” the Palestinian activist and writer Waed Zuaiter, who was killed by Israeli agents in Rome on Oct. 16, 1972.

Israel suspected Zuaiter of involvement in the Munich Olympics massacre in 1972.

Vattimo is an outspoken supporter of a call to boycott the May book fair in which Israel is the guest of honor.
