Archbishop Matheson, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, has expressed his deepest sympathies to the Zionist cause in a letter to the Orthodox rabbi of this city, Asher Silberstein, after a conversation which Rabbi Silberstein had with him regarding the White Paper. In his letter Archbishop Matheson says:
“Both personally and officially I have the utmost sympathy for my Jewish friends and shall feel extremely sorry if their hopes outlined in the Balfour statement for the establishment of a Jewish National Home in Palestine will be disappointed.”
Archbishop Matheson is much revered throughout Canada.
