The archaeological World Congress opened here yesterday in the presence of Lord Plumer, High Commissioner of Palestine and Henri de Jouvenel, High Commissioner of Syria.
Prominent archaeologists from Europe, the United States and Asia are attending the Congress. Ahmed Zaki Pasha as representative of the Egyptian government is among the visitors to the Congress. The next session will be held in Beirut on April 8.
The delegates will visit all the historic sites, including Tiberias, Beisan and Petra. They will examine the caves at Wadielamud where Turville Petre recently discovered the skull of the Neanderthal man. The delegates will also visit the ancient synagogues at Capernaum, Chorazim, Meron-Kefrbirim, in the vicinity of Safed. They will also examine the excavations in the city of David made by the Palestine Exploration Fund and the Third Wall of Herod Agrippa unearthed by the Jewish Exploration Society.
