Australian Jewish leaders sent a strongly worded letter to the speaker of Israel’s Knesset calling for the establishment of a legislative committee to probe the events surrounding last July’s bridge collapse at the Maccabiah Games in Ramat Gan. Five Australian athletes died and dozens more were injured in the tragedy, which created a “rift between Australian Jewry and Israel,” according to the letter.
