Henri Barbusse, world-famous author, editor of L’Humanite and militant pacifist, will visit this country next month to lecture against the Hitler Fascist regime in Germany. His trip will be under the auspices of the American Committee Against Fascist Oppression in Germany which yesterday revealed his forthcoming visit.
“Barbusse is coming here expressly to help focus the attention of America upon the Fascist menace and definitely fix in the minds of the public the horror of Hitlerism,” Ella Winter, secretary of the Committee, said.
“Our Committee was organized to help in every possible way all the dissenters from the Nazi rule who have fallen victims to a terrorist campaign of oppression and persecution, as well as to collect and make public the truth about Nazi atrocities and excesses, much of which is trickling through the rigid censorship imposed by the Hitler government.
“The Committee is non-partisan. It protests against the terrorist activities directed against the Jews, the Communists, the Social Democrats, the Reichsbanner, the labor unionists of Germany, in short, against the assaults on all the dissenters from the barbaric Hitler rule, without regard to creed, religion, political belief or race.”
Miss Winter also declared that the German author, Thomas Mann, whose books are included among those burned by Nazi students, in Germany, had also been invited to come to America with Barbusse, but that as yet he was uncertain whether he would be able to do so.
