Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion deferred today until Monday his reply to criticisms of his Government’s foreign policy in Parliament. The debate will be concluded next week.
Virtually all participants in the discussions which followed the Prime Minister’s Knesset statement earlier this week demanded a clear stand by the Government on the threats posed by the volatile situation in Jordan where supporters of President Nasser of Egypt have sought to drive King Hussein off his throne and by the projected new Arab federation of Egypt, Syria and Iraq.
Yisroel Galili of Achdut Avodah summed up the attitude of his aparty, which is a member of the current coalition Government, by stating that if Israel found itself abandoned by the Great Powers, it would have no choice but to put into effect measures to prevent its security from being endangered by the massing of declared aggressors along its eastern borders.
