Rabbi Bernard Heller, for ten years leader of the Madison Avenue Temple, Scranton, Pa., has accepted the position of director of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation at the University of Michigan. He succeeds Rabbi Adolph H. Fink who goes to Temple Emanu-El, Spokane, Wash., after four years at the Ann Arbor foundation.
Rabbi Heller brings to his new post a background of several years of association with the Menorah society and Avukah, national student Zionist organization. New York University honored him last fall by selecting him as the Jewish member of a Jew-Protest-ant-Catholic seminar on tolerance sponsored by the institution.
Rabbi Heller achieved prominence in local as well as sectarian communal affairs, holding the presidency of the Scranton Community Fund association. He is the author of a book of observations on post-war Europe.
