An invitation of the British government to leaders of the Jewish Agency to confer regarding the interpretation of the Palestine Mandate, and the government’s readiness to modify its Palestine policy were revealed in a communique issued from Downing Street, Premier MacDonald’s official residence.
“Doubts have been expressed,” the communique reads, “as to the compatibility of some passages in the White Paper with certain articles of the Palestine Mandate. Other passages having proved liable to misunderstanding His Majesty’s Government has invited representatives of the Jewish Agency to confer with it on these matters.
“As the parties to the Mandate are strongly desirous of securing its correct interpretation and impartial administration it is hoped that an agreement will be reached on any point of difference when a further statement concerning these issues will be made.”
