Rabbi A. Cohn, the first rabbi of the Jewish community of Basle died in that city.
A little less than a year ago Dr. Cohn retired after 40 years of Rabbinical activity. In 1885 when the Basle community numbered only 150 members, Dr. Cohn, then a young man of 24, a pupil of Rabbi Hildesheimer, received the call to become Rabbi of the congregation. At the time of his retirement the community numbered 500 families.
