An unfortunate mutilation of the cable resulted in Dr. Chaim Weizmann being misquoted in his speech at the opening session of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Agency here Friday. The first report quoted Dr. Weizmann as saying, after Felix M. Warburg had spoken about Lord Passfield’s declaration to him, “the declaration compels us to assume a fighting attitude toward Great Britain which is contrary to our desire. Our sincere wish remains, however, to cooperate with Great Britain on the basis of the Mandate.”
What Dr. Weizmann did say was “we were compelled to adopt a fighting attitude toward Great Britain. Now, however, our wish is more then ever before to be friendly and to cooperate with Great Britain on the basis of the Mandate”.
