The protest of Jewish groups on the Syracuse University campus over an alleged affront to the Jewish race in a racial attitudes questionnaire distributed by a sociology student has died down after a statement by Professor W. C. Lehmann, in whose class the questionnaire originated.
Professor Lehmann denied that affront to any race was intended by the student, admitting that some of the questions, however, “were none too well chosen”. The student responsible, he said, is “a humble follower of the Jewish faith and, of course, inexperienced in making such a study”. The hastily-formed committee which was to have taken the matter to Chancellor Flint, has reconsidered its decision and has let the matter drop.
