News Brief

Ehud Olmert pledged to see out his term as Israeli prime minister, despite record-low approval ratings. “According to opinion polls, I am not popular. I was and I will be again,” Olmert said in an interview published Wednesday in the French weekly L’Express. He was referring to single-digit approval ratings recorded since last year’s inconclusive Lebanon war and a string of scandals in the Israeli leadership. “I am indestructible. I have been here for 35 years and I have survived everything,” Olmert added, referring to his political career.
